The definition of Missions in this series of sermons is 'what the church Does to show love for Neighbors.' But how does that actually work in our church? This is not meant as a question that will lead to an explanation. Rather, it is a question to lead us to take a look around.
Some might understand “Missions” primarily in terms of
money.
In “Missions”, we have a Missions budget, overseen by the
Service Team, that seeks to aid organizations of interest and partnership to
our church. That is not
the only place where money is made available.
The Board of Deacons also has an active outreach in this regard, one we
will be talking more about on our upcoming Fourth Sunday "Moment for Mission".
Beyond these general areas of outreach, we have a more
specialized Scholarship Committee, working from a very generous bequest to the
church from the Marchbank Family, helping our local high schools. Mission too?
Some might understand “Missions” primarily in terms of hands-on work.
Our congregation offers a
Griefshare program that has touched so many lives both within and outside our
community. It continues to be a powerful
offering to the community around us.
Providing space for “AA” and chartering a Boy Scout Troop are just two
other Missions we offer to the community with the facility that we are blessed
with.
These only scratch the surface of what it is possible for people
to do in our God for love of neighbor.
What is on our hearts? What has
the Lord envisioned for us to do? What
will we prayerfully consider next? In Christ,
are there any limits?
